The College publishes no official reading list. The exam is set against the PHEM curriculum and current UK practice, guidelines and consensus statements.
This list is built from the sources behind DipIMC.Ninja's own questions. The number next to each source is how many questions in the bank cite it, which is a rough guide to how much ground it covers. Signed in, you can build a personal reading list from the questions you get wrong.
Core textbooks
- Oxford Handbook of Pre-Hospital Care, 2nd edition. Greaves and Porter, Oxford University Press, 2021. Cited by 171 questions. The broadest single book for the exam, covering clinical care, operations, transfer, the law and major incidents.
- ABC of Prehospital Emergency Medicine. Nutbeam and Boylan, Wiley-Blackwell/BMJ Books, 2013. Cited by 194 questions. Short, well-illustrated chapters. Some clinical content predates current guidance, so check doses and algorithms against the guidelines below.
- Oxford Manual of Major Incident Management. Hunt and Greaves, Oxford University Press, 2017. Cited by 19 questions. Caution: its triage sieve and sort have been replaced in UK practice by Ten Second Triage (2023) and the NHS Major Incident Triage Tool.
Resuscitation
Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines 2025 replaced the 2021 guidelines in October 2025 (all 2025 guidelines):

JRCALC
The JRCALC Clinical Guidelines are the UK ambulance service guidelines, including drug monographs and the Page for Age charts. They are a paid, per-user licence (book or app). DipIMC.Ninja cites JRCALC sections by name but never reproduces its text.
